Situation
A $700M seafood company had been recently acquired and needed to develop its long-range strategy to deliver a 7% CAGR target. Ownership challenged the company to grow its core shelf-stable seafood business even as it struggled to successfully enter the fresh and frozen segments of the category. The company also expressed interest in evaluating M&A as a market entry strategy.
Candela's Role
Our team worked with management to articulate a long-range plan (LRP) to achieve the company's growth objectives. Once the plan was finalized, we developed an approach for identifying, screening, and prioritizing potential acquisition targets and establishing strategic criteria for the screening process. We then led a global assessment of 350+ potential acquisition candidates and developed detailed company profiles for the most promising targets - ultimately narrowing the list to 10 high-priority candidates.
Impact
The LRP identified significant growth opportunities, including $40M in international potential through their core brands and products. The Company also pursued the M&A strategy we helped develop, completing two acquisitions over the LRP timeframe and delivering ~$100M in new revenue.
